Wagner baseball card bought for $1.62M

The Yahoo.com sports section reported an AP news story where a 1909 Honus Wagner baseball card was sold for $1.62 million at a memorabial auction in Chicago.

John Rogers, 35, of North Little Rock, Ark says that he has been wanting this particual card for over a decade:  “Since I was 8 years old, I’ve hoped and dreamed that one day I’d be able to get one”.

Honus Wager asked that his card be withdrawn making his particual card a rare find.  The cards were included in packs of cigerettes at the time.  There is therefore speculation that Wagner wanted his card withdrawn because he ( a non-smoker) was against smoking.
