Box Office Report: June 1st

Well, I am typing on time this week. Yay for me! There were just two new releases out this weekend so without further ado, here is your report…

Sex and the City took the top spot at the box office this weekend bringing $55.7million proving that chick flicks still make a lot of money. Indiana Jones slipped way down this weekend compared to last but still managed to sell $46million worth of tickets ($216million total). Horror film, The Strangers, opened with $20million. Iron Man is still holding strong after 5 weeks taking in $14million ($276.6million) and proving it’s definitely a box office success story, much like Indiana Jones. Finally, The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian slipped to fifth place taking in $13million ($115million total). I’m not so sure that this Narnia film is performing as well as the first and could jeopardize the rest of the franchise of films. To see the rest of the top 10 click here. It’s interesting to note that Speed Racer dropped to 8th place this weekend and has seemed to have bombed taking in only $40.5million total.
