Box Office Report: August 3rd
Today I am early on the box office reporting, aren’t I special? Well not really but still, it’s good to have results early. Here we go. Batman The Dark Knight took the top spot at the box office AGAIN for the third week in a row taking in $43.8 million ($395million total). If you still haven’t seen this movie, I think it’s fine time you got out of your seat and went to your local theater to watch. The Mummy 3 opened in second place with $42.5million, which I am not sure is a great number considering it cost a lot more than that to film. We’ll see in upcoming weeks if it can continue to stay high on the charts. Step Brothers continued it’s reign in the comedy category taking in $16.3 million ($63million total). Mamma Mia was in fourth with $13.1million ($88million total). The other Brendan Fraser film, Journey to the Center of the Earth was in fifth with a take of $6.88 million ($73.1million total). The rest of the top ten can be viewed here. It’s interesting to note that Xfiles is now all the way down in 9th place right above Space Chimps, only taking in $17.1million total. I was kind of rooting for X Files to be a smash so that they would continue to make more of them but oh well, I guess it’s kind of expected. Well that about does it for this edition of the box office report.
